A Prayer to Share

I didn't intend to write an entry today since we're packing up to go to Pittsburgh. But, as I was packing a prayer that my Aunt (also Michael'd GodMother) gave me, I really wanted to share it with you. I've changed the references to Michael, but you can easily change them to the name of your child. It just seems like such a powerful, and appropriate prayer for our children.

A Student's Prayer
by St. Thomas Aquinas

Creator of all things,
True Source of light and wisdom,
Origin of all being,
graciously let a ray of Your light penetrate
the darkness of Michael's understanding.

Take from him the double darkness
in which he has been born,
an obscurity of sin and ignorance.

Give him a keen understanding,
a retentive memory, and
the ability to grasp things
correctly and fundamentally.

Grant him the talent
of being exact in his explanations
and the ability to express himself
with thoroughness and charm.

Point out the beginning,
direct the progress,
and help in the completion.

I ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
